Coury Cottage
Coury Cottage is named in memory of 2nd Lt Gabriel George Coury VC, who was serving in the 1/4th South Lancashire Regiment, the pioneer battalion to the 55th West Lancashire Division, when he was awarded the VC for his gallantry on the 8th August 1916, in the area of Arrow Head Copse, just over a mile north of Chavasse Farm.
Basic information about Coury Cottage
Coury Cottage was created from the conversion and renovation of the old farm stables. It is fully modernised and comfortable but still retains an authentic character.
The cottage sleeps four guests in two upstairs bedrooms - one double bedroom and one twin bedroom.
There is a television in the lounge which receives 200+ free to view UK channels via a FreeSat receiver.
The lounge features a wood burning fire and wooden floors.
The farm has complimentary Wi-Fi Internet throughout the whole property.
In the lounge there is a bookcase with a small library of ninety books covering mainly the Battle of the Somme and other Great War subjects.
French doors open onto a patio and barbeque area.
The property is heated by under floor heating and a wood burner on the ground floor.
There are additional electric wall heaters in the bedrooms and bathrooms.
There is a fully equiped kitchen comprising of gas hob, grill and oven, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, toaster, kettle and a full range of pots, pans and utensils.
There is a ground-floor bathroom comprising of a bath with an overhead shower, pedestal sink, toilet and large storage cupboard.
Outside you have your own patio with a BBQ area.
From the cottage guests can look out over the valley and nearby woods which were incorporated into the German trench system before the Battle of the Somme.
There is plenty of off road parking.
